Even the most diehard Neocons are shaking their heads in disappointment - Bush blew it, and his response - both in action and rhetoric - was piss-poor.

What if this had been a dirty bomb in a major American city? The most significant difference being that there should have been a plan for exactly this situation in New Orleans, so the response and recovery should have been a no-brainer (relatively speaking.)

But don't lose credibility by blaming it ALL on Bush. While his leadership in the aftermath deserves all the derision from the left it is sure to receive, the planning and immediate response to the disaster is a local/state responsibility. The state and local governments in Louisiana have proved themselves beyond incompetent!

Yes, the local and state blew it also, but go back and read my posts and the links associated with them . There were direct scenarios as to what would happen and the funding was still cut to shoring up the levees and preparedness.

This only shows what those of us that were informed knew, that Bush was full of hot air about homeland security and that he just used it as political tool to ram through his Greed Driven Agenda.

The Bush administration is being held responsible for the condition of the levees? Unbelievable and utterly predictable at the same time.

He’s accused of cutting money that would have improved the levees. But research into more than ten years of reporting on hurricane and flood damage mitigation efforts in and around New Orleans indicates that local and state officials did not use federal money that was available for levee improvements or coastal reinforcement and often did not use local matching funds that would have generated even more federal funding. You're talking about a corrupt city government, a corrupt state government. This is the state of Huey Long, for crying out loud! The levee system? You know, every levee has its own board! Every levee has its own little fiefdom of people that are responsible for it, and it alone. Talk about bureaucracy! All the federal money that was allocated to New Orleans and Louisiana for rebuilding of levees and flood plains was not spent on that. They found other things to spend it on, and other places to put it – some of which was probably allocated to filling Nagin’s crack pipe!

The levees have been a problem for longer than Bush has been president and if the problem was so widely known, then shouldn’t the state and local authorities been more prepared? Oh, I’m sorry – they actually did have a plan. But I guess no one in that poverty-stricken, federally-neglected, under-funded hell-hole had the wherewithal to read it!!!!

When Trent Lott's house is rebuilt you and the Chimp can put on your white hoods, sit on the front porch and pat yourselves on the back knowing that you both were born with a direct line to GOD and never make mistakes like the underclass.
